"Best of all was the outstanding service and attention to detail. David was our server and in addition to making a big deal of my big day, he made sure we were happy throughout the evening. M is definitely the go to spot for special occasions in Columbus." -- Columbuswok.com"Beyond wonderful--the building, the valet service, the entry, the atmosphere, the bar, the entire service experience, THE FOOD, the desserts--it's totally beyond wonderful. M is also consistent and truly above all others in Columbus. In fact, beyond exceptional.""If you’re a fan of upscale dining that features local specialties and the freshest possible seasonal ingredients, then M at Miranova is soon to become your new favorite restaurant. I was one of a privileged group that got to experience the new menu at M. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it, right? The Columbus Twitterati enjoy the private dining room at MThe seating at M is truly unique. In addition to the elegant dining room, M also has two private dining options: an enclosed private dining room, which can seat up to 15, and the semi-private Barrel Room, which seats up to 8. M also boasts the most romantic table in the city: a circular booth that is surrounded by a canopy and has its own chandelier. GM Kristen Leff explained what sets M apart from other restaurants in the city, such as world class service, fresh, regional ingredients, and a diverse array of appetizer, salad, and entree selections. The new menu is the work of Executive Chef (and Columbus State grad) Erin Chittum, who has infused the new menu with her personality and fresh tastes, as well as a variety of cooking styles and preparations. After hearing all of that, we were ready to eat. First, we started with the Wasabi sushi ($10), which is hand-rolled tuna, salmon, avacado, cucumber, and wasabi peas. This was simply incredible – fresh and crunchy with just the right amount of heat.Followed by Tuna Tartare ($13), which is Hawaiian Big Island tuna, topped with pickled cucmber, accompanied by yuzu vinaigrette, wasabi tobiko, white miso aioli, and garnished with a tempura shittake mushroom. As you can see, it was a big hit with the group. Next came the salad course. The Green Salad ($8) is comprised of organic little gem lettuce, roquefort cheese, creamy bleu cheese dressing, and topped with candied pistachios. The star of the new menu is the White Tuna entree ($27). This tuna fillet is dusted with porcini mushroom, and comes with spring peas and wild mushrooms, and is served atop a lobster emulsion. This dish is amazing and, quite possible, my favorite item – the flavors perfectly meld with each other and are bold, rich, and satisfying. Then there is the ultimate indulgence… The Steak and Eggs ($34), is Fillet Mignon, served with goat cheese hasbrowns and a dippy egg, topped with caviar and bernaise sauce. Don’t know what a dippy egg is? That’s okay, I didn’t either. It’s a sunny-side-up quail egg, in this case. I could see ordering this dish for a special brunch when I have an occasion to celebrate. This dish is hearty and the beef is beyond top notch. It virtually melts in your mouth. We also sampled some of M’s famous side dishes. The Tater Tots ($7) are vastly different from the bag of tots I have in my freezer – light and airy with a touch of lobster meat. Chophouse Corn ($7) is a must, especially if you’re a lover of firehouse foods. It’s fried in Neuski bacon and it’s amazing. Truffle Mac and Cheese ($8) is the ultimate comfort food – it’s rich and creamy, and lightly topped with truffle oil. Finally, we had the Lobster Mashed Potatoes, which defy description. You just have to experience them.Menu Grade: A+Upcoming EventsHappy Hour. Starting October 1st, M is offering $5 after 5, featuring selected wines by the glass and martinis for $5. On Fridays, happy hour includes half- priced sushi. Now that we’ve penciled these in our calendars, it’s time to review the food…The fare at M Wasabi RollExecutive Chef Erin Chittum created a wonderful variety of dishes for us to sample. We started with a Wasabi Roll consisting of tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber, and wasabi peas. Besides the usual wasabi, it was also served with wasabi mayo; a lighter-tasting wasabi that didn’t sting going through your nose. The Tuna Tartare was very mild, but flavorful. Arranged artistically on a long plate, this appetizer consisted of Hawaiian Big Island tuna, pickled cucumber, Yuzu vinaigrette, and wasabi tobiko. The shitake mushroom added a crunchy texture, and the white miso aioli was a perfect complement. Maryland Blue CrabcakeThe Maryland Blue Crabcake was a big hit with the group. A generous size crabcake served on a bed of avocado, and finished with a plum tomato gazpacho. Personally, it was the tastiest crabcake I’ve ever eaten.Next we tried the green salad of organic gem lettuce – a hybrid of Boston and Romaine lettuce. The creamy bleu cheese dressing did not overpower; and the candied pistachios sprinkled throughout added great flavor and texture. On to the main course! The White Tuna entrée truly was a work of art. A generous wedge of thick tuna, dusted with porcini mushrooms, spring peas, and wild mushrooms was finished with a lobster emulsion. This may have been the group favorite, and proved to be very filling. Steak - N - EggsThe other entrée we tried was the Steak-N-Eggs. M’s version of steak and eggs was a 7 oz. filet served on a bed of goat cheese hashbrowns, topped with a dippy quail egg and caviar, and complemented with a béarnaise sauce. Once again, artistically arranged, and the filet was cooked to perfection! We tasted four side dishes: Truffle Mac and Cheese, Lobster Mashed Potatoes, Tater Tots, and Chophouse Corn. The Truffle Mac and Cheese was a creamy delight! The truffle oil gave this dish a rich flavor. The lobster mashed potatoes were really too good to be relegated to side dish status. Maine Lobster chunks were predominant throughout the mashed potatoes. The Tater Tots are nothing like you remember from your childhood. M’s Tater Tots had a smooth texture inside, and were served with horseradish sauce, which kicked the flavor up a notch. The Chophouse Corn was to die for – corn fried in bacon – a definite must-try.Dessert was a real treat – Chilled apricot Moscato soup, fresh berries, and organic yogurt sorbet, garnished with a mint sprig. This was a perfect light ending to a great meal. If you are typically too full to eat dessert, you can easily make room for this one.Executive Chef Chittum is a graduate of Columbus State, and has worked her way up through several of the Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, including Marcellas and Mitchell’s Ocean Club."M features the most romantic table in the city for a special occasion – a canopy surrounding a private circular booth underneath a chandelier. Although not open for lunch, M will be open for luncheon parties during December.“Great people delivering genuine hospitality” is what M, and the entire family of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants is all about. Food is great...well prepared and presented..not to mention the service is wonderful. I highly suggest M for any special occasion or just a night when you want a change of scenery from the normal places! It really was an extraordinary experience. My husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary at M, as we have every year. It really was an extraordinary experience. We were seated as we had requested and were immediately congratulated and given a glass on Piper Brut. We were not hurried and had a wonderful exquisite meal. Richard was very attentive and the general manager Greg stopped and welcomed us too. We will be back, if not before than certainly next year on our anniversary.""Last week my date and I went to M for a night out. She said she just got a new dress that she wanted to wear but didn’t know where she was going to get to wear it. So I suggested we go all out and go to M. I put on a new tie and my black shoes. We looked sharp, and we were dressed perfectly for the occasion.I had been there before but Ashlee had not. As soon as she walked in she was in awe of the restaurant. I’m surprised she didn’t trip over something because she kept looking up at the decorations and the lighting on the ceiling. When we sat down she kept looking around. We really liked the fluorescent lighting on the sheer fabric that was hanging. It was purple when we walked in and then next thing we knew it was pink. Ashlee kept saying how surreal everything looked. I felt pretty suave taking her to such a swanky place. Our server was Mark and he was very friendly right away. He told us about the specials and told us to take our time deciding what we wanted to order. I ordered us two mojitos and the lobster cones for an appetizer. The mojitos were a little strong so before I knew it Ashlee had a big smile on her face. The lobster cones were delicious and the plate looked like a work of art. And before he brought them out he brought a little taste of soup. It had some French name I don’t remember and he said they give a sample to everyone to get their taste buds going. It worked. For our entrees we had the veal and the salmon and we each got a glass of wine. I tried the house red and Ashlee wanted a white wine that was sweet. Mark offered to bring her a taste of the Pinot Grigio and she really liked it. Then he helped her decide between the salmon and the red snapper special because she said she didn’t want a fish with too strong of a taste. He was very nice to us and the food was amazing. Ashlee looked very happy and I think I scored some major points.""My husband & I were in Columbus to relax, shop & dine and we visited M for the first time. We loved it so much we invited family members to join us the next night! A perfect blend of atmosphere and great food! The Chef prepared a fantastic plate of fresh vegetables cooked expertly with drizzled balsamic vinaigrette for me, the vegetarian, while everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meat & seafood entrees. From the appetizers to the desserts, fabulous! The servers were so knowledgeable with just the right mix of attentiveness yet not intrusive. We can't wait to eat there again-real soon!""Cameron Mitchell just keeps doing it right! The best restaurants in Columbus hands down and frankly the best restaurants as a whole I have ever dined at anywhere. M, simply put is every possible dining experience rolled into one. The Roasted Tomato Soup melts in your mouth and leaves you wishing there was an entree size serving. But knowing Cameron's restaurants, if that's what you want, that's what you'll get. Thank you Cameron and keep up the good work, please! I can't wait until I can travel all over the country and be able to dine at a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant wherever I go!"
